Cardiac imaging

Accurate imaging in a comfortable setting

The cardiac imaging department at Salem Health provides clinical noninvasive cardiac imaging services using state-of-the-art ultrasound, CT and MRI technologies. Our diverse team of radiologists and cardiologists tailors imaging protocols to each patient, and provides exemplary quality while minimizing imaging time, contrast doses, and radiation.

The Salem Health non-invasive cardiac imaging lab is nationally accredited. We provide high-quality, standardized exams. Our nationally registered staff provide imaging techniques that enable evaluation of the heart structures and function. This helps assess a wide variety of cardiac abnormalities, anomalies and congenital diseases. These include coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia, valvular disease, infiltrative disorders and other structural abnormalities. We also provide pre-operative and pre-procedural assessment of coronary arteries, cardiac chambers, and great vessels.

Our services

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram is a test that uses sound waves to create pictures of the heart. The picture and information it produces is more detailed than a standard x-ray image. An echocardiogram does not expose you to radiation.

Salem Health performs the following cardiac ultrasound imaging exams:

  • Echocardiograms (TTE/transthoracic)
  • Echocardiograms with bubble
  • Pediatric echocardiograms (from birth to 18 years old)
  • Stress echocardiograms
  • Transesophageal (TEE)

See below for frequently asked questions about all of our cardiac imaging procedures, including echocardiograms.

Stress echocardiogram

Stress echocardiography is a test that uses ultrasound imaging to show how well your heart muscle is working to pump blood to your body. It is most often used to detect a decrease in blood flow to the heart from narrowing in the coronary arteries.

Most people will walk on a treadmill or pedal on an exercise bike. It is like walking quickly or jogging up a hill.

In most cases, you will need to walk or pedal for around 5 to 15 minutes, depending on your level of fitness and your age.

See below for frequently asked questions about all of our cardiac imaging procedures, including stress echocardiography tests.

CT scan

Computerized tomography, also known as CT scan, is a diagnostic procedure that takes images of blood vessels, bones, internal organs and structures.

Our highly trained staff interprets cardiac CT scans to help diagnose a range of cardiovascular conditions such as coronary artery disease. It's a life-threatening condition caused by a buildup of fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances in the arteries, which supply blood to the heart.

See below for frequently asked questions about all of our cardiac imaging procedures, including cardiac CT scans.

Heart monitoring

We offer multiple types of heart monitors including the following:

  • Extended cardiac monitor (patch monitor)
  • Event monitor
  • Mobile cardiac telemetry

Visit the heart monitoring page for more information.
