Salem Health Foundation scholarships reach $3.3 million

Each year, Salem Health Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing careers in health care. For the upcoming 2020-21 academic year, the foundation awarded $110,000 in scholarships to 90 students, bringing the total scholarship-funded awards to more than $3.3 million since 1968.

“The Salem Health Foundation strives to ensure a healthy community and, by investing in future providers, guarantees residents of the mid-Willamette Valley will continue to have access to quality local health care,” said Pat Force, foundation scholarship chair.

The Salem Health Foundation awarded several scholarships this year, including the Salem Self-help Nursing Scholarship and the following named scholarships In honor or memory of local community members:

  • Rollin Haag Nursing Scholarship
  • Elmera “Tiny” Richardson Nursing Scholarship
  • Sewell Family Scholarship
  • Grayce & Glola Sigg Nursing Scholarship

The Salem Health Foundation was established in 1968 by a group of Salem residents interested in advancing health care through donations. It is a charitable, tax-exempt organization that supports medical projects of Salem Health. The Foundation’s 12 volunteer directors help raise funds and manage the resources of the foundation, while distributing the funds according to the wishes of those who have given.
