West Valley Hospital has been serving the community for more than 100 years. It is the home of Polk County’s only 24-hour emergency department and it offers a wide range of services including imaging, surgery and rehabilitation.
To improve the health and well-being of the people and community we serve.
Our mission expresses our purpose for existing as a tax-exempt health care organization.
Exceptional Experience Every Time.
Our vision describes where we want to be — it’s aspirational. We strive to achieve our vision every day, with everything we do and say.
West Valley Hospital, formerly Dallas Hospital, was established at the corner of Church and Academy streets.

The hospital moved to Oak Street.
A hospital structure was built in the present Uglow Street parking lot. The cost of construction was about $13,000 and was financed by the sale of stock and a $5,000 loan.

Tony Branson and a silent partner purchased Dallas Hospital.
The hospital was sold to Setco NW, a California-based company. It was then sold to a succession of for-profit hospital companies.

Hyatt sold the hospital to American Medical International and the name was changed to Valley Community Hospital shortly thereafter. Two years later the hospital was sold to Nu-Med Medical Inc.
Valley Community Hospital was sold to Salem Hospital and was then leased back by Valley Community Hospital.
Salem Hospital invested about $2.5 million in a building remodel and addition and assumed control of hospital operations.
Valley Community Hospital became West Valley Hospital, a part of Pacific Health Horizons (now called Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics).

West Valley Hospital spent $6.2 million on its surgical suite for remodel and expansion. This upgrade made it possible to bring Salem Health surgeons to perform procedures in Dallas, closer to home for many patients.
Salem Health's affiliation with OHSU ended, and the hospital's name returned to West Valley Hospital.

During the rollout of the vaccine for COVID-19, Polk was among the leading counties in Oregon for the percent of population vaccinated, thanks to a partnership between West Valley Hospital and county government.
The spring of 2021 also saw Salem Health adapting to changing health care needs in the area by offering same-day primary care appointments in Dallas.
West
Valley Hospital opened 19 new licensed beds in June 2023, primarily focused
on the swing bed model of care. Beds can “swing” from inpatient to rehab,
allowing patients who need additional services to stay longer and discharge
safely. The expansion helps address the difficulty finding placement in
long-term care or skilled nursing facilities for acute care patients ready for
transfer to a different level of care. This difficulty has kept many Oregon
hospitals above 100% capacity in recent years.
Construction began in December 2022 for the $25 million investment in the
facility. The expansion created more than 80 new full-time equivalency
positions with Salem Health in Dallas, including nursing, environmental
services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, pharmacy,
access services, care management and supply chain.
As part of its continued Polk County investment, Salem Health renovated the building at 1050 SE Uglow Ave., Dallas, across the street from West Valley Hospital, to house outpatient services for wound care, anticoagulation, infusion, medication management and outpatient rehabilitation.
