Cervical cancer used to be a leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. Thanks to screening, it's much easier to catch early when it's simpler to treat. The goal of screening is to find any issues before they turn into serious problems,
aiming to save lives.
Salem Health Cancer Center works closely with providers who offer cervical cancer screening tests. This test, known as a Pap smear, helps detect early changes in the cervix that could later turn into cancer.
A Pap smear is a quick and simple test. It involves collecting a small sample of cells from your cervix, which takes only a few minutes. However, you should plan to spend about 45 minutes for the entire appointment to make sure everything goes smoothly.
