We are excited to announce that Salem Health Medical Group’s new vascular clinic is opening on the Salem Hospital campus on Monday, Sept. 18. It will be located in building C, on the 5th floor (suite 5020).

Medical Director Erica L. Mitchell, MD, MEd, SE and Amani D. Politano, MD, MS will perform urgent and emergent vascular and endovascular procedures for hospitalized patients and those presenting to the emergency department. The surgeons will be part of the vascular surgery section call rotation. In addition to surgery, surgeons will provide outpatient consultation for patients requiring hemodialysis access and those with blood vessel and lymphatic system conditions.

The new clinic helps solidify Salem Health’s designation as a level II trauma center. It allows patients presenting to the ED or elsewhere in our hospital to be treated locally. Before the clinic opening, many patients in our community needed to wait for a vascular surgery consult or travel to Portland for that level of care.

The vascular clinic will begin seeing patients from Salem Health Medical Group and Salem Clinic with referrals from patient primary care providers. Vascular clinic staff will work with the nephrologists at Kidney Care Physicians to provide vascular access surgery to patients on or awaiting dialysis. In the future, the vascular clinic aims to open its doors to all providers in the community.

Corresponding to the opening of the new clinic, Information Services built Epic infrastructure so that vascular surgery referrals can be ordered as internal referrals to the new clinic, whereas they previously defaulted to external orders.
