Epic’s Clinical Decision Support tool CareSelect starts Aug. 18

16 Aug 2020

Criteria functionality improved in choosing imaging

By: Jeremy Bogan, information services business relations administrator

To meet the Jan. 1, 2021, CMS requirement, Information Services has enhanced the functionality of CareSelect and will implement those enhancements on Aug. 18. CareSelect was originally implemented last fall per the CMS requirement.

CareSelect uses clinical criteria such as the patient’s age, sex, the study ordered, clinical indication(s), problem list, and encounter diagnoses to help determine the most appropriate imaging study for a patient based on appropriate use criteria supplied by medical societies.

Referring providers are required to consult AUC prior to ordering advanced diagnostic imaging services – CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and PET – for Medicare Part-B patients. See the tip sheet for support on how to address the support tool when it pops up. The tip sheet will also be available on the provider dashboard in Epic.
