The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians by preparing patients for examination, by setting up for and assisting with procedures and exams, by administering medications under physician direction, and by performing any other tasks as directed by the physician and falling within the scope of clinic practice.
A CMA can assist staff in administrative as well as clinical duties including maintaining accurate medical records of patients and arranging patient appointments.
Medical assistants can specialize to work in different areas of the hospital, as well as in different health clinics. They may have a variety of duties as assigned by their supervisor and must be willing to complete any assignment, understanding the priority of tasks.
They must communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians in a positive, caring manner.
Bariatrics, Rehabilitation Therapies, SHAPES, Sleep Disorder Center, Women's and Children's Services.
They interact closely with their supervisor be it a physician, a registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN) or another medical care provider. They must also demonstrate great customer service in interacting with patients and their families.
Completion of an accredited medical assisting program (1-2 years) and professional certification is recommended
