Donor spotlight: Salem Health employee supports inclusive play area

Heidi employee donor

Heidi Chin, RN, staff nurse with Salem Health’s cardiovascular care unit, has worked at the hospital in Salem since 1998. She is the mother of three children; the youngest has special needs. That child is now 18 years old.

Chin recently donated $100 to support the construction of the therapy and community play area at the corner of Church and Mission streets.

“To be able to have that kind of space in our community is very important and needed,” Chin said. “Salem Health employees have the opportunity to give back to their community and offer a place specifically for anybody with accessibility issues. That’s just amazing.”

Set to open in the summer of 2016, this wheelchair-friendly site will enhance physical, emotional, behavioral and social skills for children and adults of all abilities—including patients of the Salem Health Rehabilitation Center.

The 43,000-square-foot therapy and play area will offer a number of interactive pieces of equipment that can be used by everyone, but especially by patients who are working with the hospital’s rehabilitation team. Some of the elements include a play mound and slide, geoball climbing web, therapy loop, sensory wall and sound tubes.

Please consider joining Chin and making a special gift in support of the Salem Health therapy and community play area. Donations of any amount would be appreciated. For more information or to donate online, go to www.salemhealth.org/tcpa.
