Epic Chart with Art dictation launches Aug. 12

Aug. 9, 2026

Dragon Dictation retires Aug. 13

By: G. Andrew Clarke, MD, FACS, Chief Medical Information Officer

Update: The tipsheet was updated at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday,Aug. 11.

Epic's new real-time dictation capability will be available with the quarterly Epic upgrade on Wednesday, Aug. 12. As part of Chart with Art, this integrated dictation tool is built directly into Epic, eliminating the need to launch a separate application.

We encourage all providers to begin using Epic Chart with Art Dictation as their primary dictation solution. The application will automatically detect and use a connected microphone. To learn how to switch to a different mic, or learn more about the new functionality, review the Chart with Art dictation tipsheet.

For providers currently using Dragon microphones, please note that the microphone can be used for dictation with Chart with Art — however, the programmable buttons on Dragon microphones will not function at launch. Our teams are actively working on a solution, and updates will be communicated as they become available. In the meantime, the microphone itself will continue to function normally for dictation.

Additionally, the Dragon Mobile App is not compatible with Epic Chart with Art Dictation and will not function with the new integrated dictation solution.

As part of this transition, Dragon Dictation will be retired on Thursday, Aug. 13.

To support a smooth transition, Informatics team members will be available to provide at-the-elbow assistance on Aug. 12 and 13.
