2014 Salem Health community benefit

In the last fiscal year, Salem Health provided more than $96 million in health-related benefits to the community. A four-page report breaks down the details of spending.

Highlights include:

  • $47 million in charity care and unmet cost of Medicaid
  • $38 million in unmet cost of Medicare and other public programs
  • $6 million in community health improvements, subsidized health services and community benefit operations

The Community Health Education Center (CHEC) is a big part of the community benefit offered by Salem Health. The CHEC marked its five-year anniversary last year, celebrating 235,319 visits, 18,293 books borrowed and 5,338 classes, events and programs presented.
