Salem Hospital leader co-authors national article on pet therapy, acupuncture, and alternative medicine
Oct 20, 2015
Dr. Margo Halm, director of nursing research, professional practice, and Magnet® at Salem Health, has co-authored a guest series in the American Journal of Nursing (AJN).
Halm is also a member of AJN’s editorial board. The first in a five-part series—entitled “Integrative Care: The Evolving Landscape in American Hospitals”—debuted in AJN’s Oct. 2015 edition.
Halm developed the in-depth series with Julie Katseres, nurse practitioner in the Hospice and Palliative Care Department at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System. The two examined the surging use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States (including services such as pet therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and nutrition education)—and how many hospitals have integrated those services and therapies to augment conventional medical care.
