Edwin N. Austin, MD

Bio
Dr. Austin practiced plastic surgery in Mt. Vernon, WA for four years before relocating to Salem. He has maintained his private practice in Salem since 1996, providing the full range of plastic and reconstructive surgery to patients of all ages. He believes in treating all patients with utmost respect, and prides himself in personalized care, and patient involvement through personalized education about their surgery and recovery. He enjoys time at the gym, swimming, and camping with his family. Originally from California, Dr. Austin graduated from Stanford University, receiving a B.S. with Distinction in Biological Sciences. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society, and a recipient of the prestigious American Heart Association Student Research Fellowship. Dr. Austin then completed his medical degree at the UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, where he was an Alpha Omega Alpha member and recipient of the Gladys M. Shea Prize in Anatomical Sciences. After receiving his medical degree, he completed his internship and general surgery residency training at the University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals in Seattle. He also completed residency training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Dr. Austin is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He began his career in 1992 at Skagit Valley Medical Center in Mount Vernon, Washington, and soon opened his own private practice in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Salem, Oregon. He has maintained his private practice in Salem since 1996. His high quality of care includes a calming bedside manner, excellent rapport with patients, nursing staff, and fellow medical staff, and includes a widespread excellent reputation. Dr. Austin has patients from Washington, Idaho, California and more. Dr. Austin also holds clinical appointments at Salem Health and Northbank Surgical Center. He is involved with Fellow - American College of Surgeons, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Medical Association, Oregon Medical Association, Oregon Society of Plastic Surgeons, Marion-Polk County Medical Society, Harkins Surgical Society, University of Washington, Dingman Surgical Society/University of Michigan, and the Mid-Valley Independent Physicians Association.

Interests
Dr. Austin practices the full breath of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including breast reconstruction, reconstruction following skin cancer, reconstruction following trauma; plus the range of cosmetic surgery including facial plastic surgery, body contouring, breast augmentation/lifts, abdominal procedures, surgery following weight loss. Throughout his practice, Dr. Austin has worked with the medical community. He served on the Board of Directors for the Marion-Polk County Medical Society, and was a member of the Continuing Medical Education Committee for more than 10 years. During that time, he served terms as chairman and Grand Rounds chairman. Currently, he is a member of the Salem Health Multidisciplinary Peer Review Committee for patient safety.
