After a well-attended May 4 ribbon cutting, Salem Health Medical Clinic - Woodburn had a smooth opening day with six patients on May 7, reported Randy Rasmussen, clinic site administrator.
“We kept the schedule light to make sure we didn’t have any big barriers,” he said. “The staff and providers did a great job getting ready for the big day, and it’s been very smooth, thanks to all the support.”
Salem Health Medical Group worked with many key partners, including the Woodburn Chamber of Commerce and other health care providers like Salud Medical Center.
“All were very receptive to us,” said Rasmussen, who brings 16 years of family medical clinic management experience to his role.
The clinic (near the factory outlet mall) is at 105 Arney Road, Suite 120, Woodburn. Services include the following, with same-day appointments for more pressing issues:
“Like most places in the country, Woodburn needs more access to care,” said Bahaa Wanly, chief operating officer and vice president, Salem Health Medical Group. “We all know the frustration of waiting for an appointment to see our provider. Our aim is to give families in the mid-valley quicker access to the care they need.”
The clinic is in a temporary, modular building to be eventually replaced by a permanent building that will include a broader range of services, including urgent care. Plans for the permanent building will take into account the needs of the community so that Salem Health can offer additional services that residents want and need.
The clinic’s medical staff includes David Lee, MD and Monica Henderson, family nurse practitioner.
“I started as a medical assistant in rural health and am excited to return to this field,” said Henderson. “I’m passionate about family care and specifically preventive health in the family structure. I’m also excited to start something new and look forward Salem Health establishing a permanent presence in Woodburn.”
Dr. Lee looks forward to making an impact.
“I wanted to get back to the core of why I went into medicine 20-plus years ago — which is service and community,” he said. “I’d worked in areas like Newport Beach, Calif., and Lake Oswego over the last 12 years, but felt I could make a bigger impact in this community.”
