Here’s what to know!

View as a webpage

The migration from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is officially underway! Information Services is upgrading computers building by building throughout this fall.

Process

  1. IS will email department managers a week before data migration begins in their physical work areas.
  2. Managers share pre-migration steps with their teams and anyone who regularly works in the area, as appropriate (steps differ for shared computer areas).
  3. IS representatives move through the department on the appointed days and transition computers from Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2013 to Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016.
  4. IS representatives round a few hours after completion to ensure all settings and applications have populated.

Changes

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Outlook 2016!
  • More control over scheduling your own security patches, required reboots, etc.

Important preparation notes

If you use OneNote or sticky notes, you will need to back the information up to prevent data loss during your migration.

For OneNote, follow this tip sheet. For sticky notes, copy the information into a Word or notepad document and save it to your G: drive.

To learn more, visit the Windows 10 SharePoint site.
