The VTE Prevention Team has heard the concerns of medical staff. We have taken direction from physician leadership and will be moving forward with changes in Epic to both ensure patient safety and simplify provider workflow. These changes will be presented at MEC and the Physician Coalition meetings in early July. Tip sheets for use will be made available. Look for these changes in the next 4 to 6 weeks and attendance at section meetings in early August.

The four-hour BPA that now ONLY fires when orders are not on the chart is being modified. We will attempt to assure it does not fire while the patient is still in the ED, but rather four hours after they are admitted. We are also attempting to give providers an option to contraindicate “now” but choose to be reminded to reassess at a later time (optional).  This BPA reminder will remain in force to prevent “misses” when orders are not placed.

Remember: If you have problems with current or future workflow, please contact the Solution Center (Help Desk), give them the MRN and they will pass your concerns to us for resolution.
