Our Medical Executive Committee (MEC), in partnership with hospital operations, recently revised the system-wide Use of Chaperones policy to align with OMB rule OAR 847-010-0130. A copy of the OMB’s FAQ is available here.
While the Salem Health Hospitals and Clinics policy changes were prompted by the Oregon Medical Board, the MEC and policy stakeholders included nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives to the policy for continuity as credentialed providers at Salem Hospital.
The updated Use of Chaperones policy is available here and takes effect July 1 to coincide with the OMB. The current policy without the OMB revisions is available here.
During the next four months until this policy begins, the MEC will provide updates at the Physician Leadership Council, which is comprised of 29 specialty section chiefs and MEC members. The next meeting is Thursday, March 16. We encourage you to review this policy and submit questions to your respective section chief or submit your questions/concerns to Kelly Aebi, medical staff office director, in advance of this meeting or any time after for ongoing discussion and communication.
The MEC will continue to provide updates via Common Ground based on these discussions. Also, the policy will be assigned to applicable providers across varying staff statuses and specialties at Salem Hospital via HealthStream.
