Training reminders for the next Epic upgrade

15 Sep 2019

Recommended training starts Sept. 23

By: Drew Clarke, MD, chief medical information officer

Note these key stages and dates for Salem Health’s Epic 19.2 version upgrade and OnBase go-live (replacement of our electronic document management system):

  • Build freeze: Sept. 3 to after go-live. To maintain system integrity during testing, enhancement and build requests will not be fulfilled until after go-live. If you have emergent requests, please escalate an SBAR to your section leadership.
  • Go-live: There will be a downtime in the early morning of Oct. 15 and features will be live upon its completion.
  • Training: Begins Sept. 23.
    • Providers (employed and non-employed) will be assigned a highly recommended overview in HealthStream — and we do highly recommend it! It’s jam-packed with efficiency changes and opportunities to reduce time at the keyboard. You will also see training materials addressing changes that impact the orders activity, notes activity, and In-Basket messaging.
    • Basic Dragon Medical One training is also included. In-person training for Dragon Medical One dictation will occur the week of October 14.
    • Paper tip sheets will be provided in a binder in the computer area of the Physician Lounge and in the SHMG hospitalist workroom. The electronic copies will be on the Epic upgrade site with all of the other training materials for the project.
