Surgical Services is making a few updates to leadership structure. With some recent changes, here’s a brief review so you know who’s who!
As a result of observing and hearing from physicians and staff about frustration at not knowing who to go to with a problem or question, we have redesigned our assistant nurse manager structure, as well as added an additional one to bring our total to five. Each ANM will be responsible for a service line or group. They will be dedicated to knowing and supporting each section in their work, including staff, equipment and products. These five nurses are all experienced in our ORs and looking forward to partnering with you to continue to improve our service. Our goal with this change is to ensure you have a knowledgeable and consistent point of contact.
You can expect to see members of your OR leadership team at section meetings. Look for Susan Spohr, RN, our OR & SPD director. Susan has been here since November, and comes to us with a great deal of experience from hospitals around the country. You will also see Kristen Myers, RN, our peri-anesthesia director, working with our prep & recovery, pre-surgical screening, PACU, and endoscopy teams. Kristen has been with Salem Health since 2007 and with the Surgical Services team since October 2015. Before that, she was our director of patient safety and clinical support. I am currently serving as our interim vice-president of Surgical Services, and Matt Boles, MD, continues to serve as the division’s medical director. Susan and Kristen’s offices are located in Building A, near the OR entrances on the north side of the building. Matt and I can be found off of the staff skybridge connecting A and C ORs.
Shauna Claudio, RN, OR nurse manager, has taken another role at Salem Health with the care management team. We wish Shauna well with her new adventure. We will recruit for a manager to join our team, and will be including physicians in the selection process. Please join us in thanking Shauna for her service to the ORs!
