“Last January, the Joint Commission released a new medication management standard on antimicrobial stewardship for hospitals. To address the commission standards currently in effect and to decrease antibiotic resistance for our patients, Salem Health’s Antibiotic Stewardship Program has implemented an Anti-Infective Formulary Management Guideline with two tools: Anti-Infective Treatment Guidelines for adult inpatients and the Antimicrobial Susceptibility Report.  Please review these tools via Healthstream and these documents.

Thank you for your due diligence in helping with appropriate antibiotic use for our patients. Studies have shown that this will decrease days of therapy for meropenem, ertapenem, zosyn, levofloxacin, ceftriaxone, cefipime, and fluoroquinolones by 10 percent and ultimately decrease our hospital-onset C-Diff infections by 10 percent.
