Several different organizations have published varying recommendations about when women should have mammography screening. The Salem Cancer Institute Breast Committee has developed a brief summary for physicians to share with patients. The consensus of the committee is that research still supports mammography as the best tool for early detection and that annual screening for women age 40 and older continues to save lives. This shared decision-making tool is intended to help facilitate discussion about the risks and the benefits leading to the best decision for each patient.
