The rankings began with 4,658 hospitals which includes almost all inpatient facilities in the U.S. Salem Hospital received the highest rating possible in the specialties of pulmonology, urology and the following eight procedures and conditions:
* Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
* Aortic valve surgery
* Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
* Colon cancer surgery
* Heart bypass surgery
* Heart failure
* Hip replacement
* Knee replacement
The U.S. News website noted that nine of Oregon’s nearly 70 hospitals meet its high standards . Salem Hospital was ranked fourth.
