Salem Hospital has again been named a top Oregon hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 2018-2019. The analysis uses data from almost 5,000 health centers across the country with scores based on a variety of patient outcome and care-related factors, such as patient safety and nurse staffing. U.S. News then ranks hospitals in adult and pediatric specialties and common procedures and conditions.

The hospital rankings began with 4,656 hospitals, which includes almost all inpatient facilities in the United States. Analyzed data comes from a variety of sources such as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the American Hospital Association. Salem Hospital received the “high performing” rating (top ten percent in in the nation) in the specialties of pulmonology, urology, diabetes and endocrinology — and the following six procedures and conditions:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Heart bypass surgery
  • Heart failure
  • Hip replacement
  • Knee replacement

According to the U.S. News website, “Oregon has nearly 65 hospitals. Nine meet high U.S. News standards and are ranked in the state.” Salem Hospital was ranked fourth in Oregon.
