Effective July 17, 2018, Salem Health Laboratories will update the hematology test code names to bring us into alignment with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ naming conventions. These updates are necessary to ensure appropriate laboratory testing and reimbursement.

Updates will include:

New test code name

  • Information services will automatically update Epic test codes to align with name changes. This should reduce impact when ordering the above laboratory tests.
  • The laboratory directory of services will be updated to the new naming conventions. The DOS website is available here.
  • Preprinted Salem Health laboratory requisitions will be updated on the next requisition order.
  • Physicians who submit handwritten lab orders will need to use the new test code names when ordering.
  • All custom lab requisitions that clinic offices have created will need edited templates to reflect the new test code names.
  • Physicians who have an electronic medical record system will need to update their laboratory translation table to reflect the above new test code names.
