Salem Health applies for Primary Stroke Center designation

23 May 2021

Stroke training part of national awareness month

By: Sarah Daniels, MSN-Ed, RN, stroke navigator

We are excited to announce Salem Health has applied to The Joint Commission to become a Primary Stroke Center. Our ready date is set for Aug. 1, 2021, after which, there is a 90-day window for the survey.

Becoming a Primary Stroke Center will bring value to our hospital and stroke patients. Thanks to your hard work over the past year, we’ve improved care, treatment and education we provide to stroke patients, which provides the best chance for recovery.

Education and competency are a large focus of the Joint Commission.  We also want to make sure that everyone understands what they are responsible for and what is required for all stroke patients. This will ensure the patient receives quality care and you as the healthcare provider feel comfortable in your role.

To celebrate National Stroke Awareness Month, stroke education will be a focus in HealthStream courses about our scope of services, stroke order sets, Joint Commission Metrics, and Stroke Alert Algorithm with a short competency quiz to follow.
