Recent Star Award winners (8/20/17)

The following have been recognized with Star Awards. You’ll also find announcements on the Medical Staff bulletin board, on a rotating basis.

Michael Barra, MD, received the Hero award for amazing efforts to protect the life of a pregnant patient when she appeared in the ED with abdominal pain. After discovering a prolapsed umbilical cord, he took immediate measures to maintain blood flow to the fetus and accompanied the patient to L&D (Nomination by Joey Vanwinckel).

Shane Peterson, MD, received a Role Model for Excellence Award for his work as an attending emergency physician following a death in the ED. His act of compassion in helping all involved share a moment of silence with the family was powerful and profound (Nomination from Chaplain Allen Vandecoevering).

Sheila Goldsworthy, MD and Eric Shields, MD received the Team Award for quickly responding to a Code Blue event when a visitor in the Mother Baby Unit went into cardiac arrest. They also credit the amazing team; the visitor was expected to have a good prognosis (Nomination from Sara Towell).
