Every child in our community deserves the best, evidence-based care, delivered by compassionate, well-trained providers and nursing staff in a hospital that is safe, close to home and continuously striving to improve.

We’re proud to announce that’s happening right here at Salem Hospital, thanks to the Pediatric Hospitalist Program launched last year, combined with other services we’ve been building.

As mothers, we’ve both been in the position of worried parent several times, so we will always strive to create a team and an environment focused on excellence. This commitment, in fact, fueled our passion to build the “dream team” of pediatricians dedicated to enhancing the care of hospitalized children. Each person brings something unique to our “family,” and we inspire each other in ways that continue to be motivating to watch.

Our pediatric hospitalists are Erin Perkey, MD; Lauren Bouton, MD; Fara Etzel, MD; Jim Stier, MD; Bryan Child, MD; and Jill Pearson, MD (director).

Here’s what you can expect from the new program and pediatric services in general:

  • A member of the Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine Team (which draws from Salem Health and OHSU) is now available 24/7 for questions and consult. They can be reached through Webxchange and/or the switchboard.
  • The OHSU Doernbecher Clinic at Salem Health (Building C) offers the following services for pediatric outpatients: cardiology, developmental pediatrics, endocrinology, fetal therapy, gastroenterology, general surgery, pulmonology, orthopedics, and urology.
  • When needed, our pediatric hospitalists work closely with OHSU through telemedicine to provide an extra layer of expertise to children admitted to our care.
  • We support the ED via phone or in-person consultations for pediatric patients.
  • Our experienced hospitalists, pediatricians and providers have been part of this community for many years. They are excited to work in a Magnet hospital that uses evidence-based practice with an engaged nursing staff.

We especially look forward to building partnerships with local providers — those who continue to work alongside us in the hospital and those who allow us to care for their hospitalized patients. We understand the challenges of juggling a thriving outpatient practice with inpatient responsibilities. Our dream is to help providers deliver excellent medical care for children while maintaining healthy work/life balance.

Imagine a sick child or newborn in a hospital bed surrounded by concerned family members and the best round-the-clock compassion and clinical care possible.

That is our promise, because every family deserves the reassurance that everyone on their care team will deliver the care they want for their own children. We look forward to keeping that promise and invite you to join us.
