Proposed revision to Credentials Procedure Manual

Based on the current credentialing criteria in the Credentials Procedure Manual, initial applicants to the medical staff are being delayed for appointment if they are considered Category 2 applicants. Several of the Category 2 criteria may be unnecessary and too restrictive.

Category 2 applicants include those who have any item that shows up on a background investigation, including very minor traffic/motor vehicle violations, as well as a gap between graduation from NP/PA school and that NP/PA’s ability to get a license.

Modifications need to be made to the CPM to eliminate unnecessary and too restrictive credentialing criteria for Category 1 vs 2 applicants.

Proposed changes would modify language in the CPM:

  1. Provides the definition of a “gap”
  2. Allows for a 6-month gap for NPs and PAs between graduation from school and start of first clinical practice without making the applicant a Category 2
  3. Eliminates misdemeanor motor vehicle/traffic violations from the Category 2 credentialing criteria

Please contact Kelli Fussell if you have any concerns about these proposed changes.
