During several Code Triage events last summer, communications between hospital Incident Command and physicians in the hospital were challenging. A group of physicians and physician assistants have agreed to work with Salem Health’s Emergency Preparedness Administrator Wayne McFarlin to help in disaster planning. They are:

  • Dr. Karen Spangle, Emergency Department
  • Dr. Brian Clothier, Emergency Department & EMS Medical Director
  • Dr. Angie Anderson, Surgical Services (anesthesiologist)
  • PA Arminia Peyregne-Lollar, Surgical Services (Salem Clinic)
  • Dr. Claire O’Brien, Chief Medical Information Officer
  • Dr. Nicole VanDerHeyden, Trauma Director, SHMG Surgery Clinic
  • Dr. Christine Clark, General Surgeon, SHMG Surgery Clinic

The team’s first project is developing a physician’s emergency communications plan, which is being finalized now and will be tested in February. This plan will ensure timely two-way communication between the hospital’s Incident Command team and on-duty physicians during Code Triage events.
