Call 503-814-7337 (PEER) any time for confidential help

By: Matthew Boles, MD, vice president medical affairs

The Salem Health Peer Support Team, which launched on May 1, 2018 includes a team of dedicated clinicians and nursing staff who provide 24-hour, confidential, peer-to-peer support for those experiencing emotional distress or who have endured an adverse event at work.

The team is accessible by calling 503-814-7337 (4-PEER). You can self-refer or refer a colleague and speak to an on-call peer supporter. For example, after the August 2019 fire in Building B, the peer support team reached out to more than 300 affected by this incident. The team also reaches those involved in serious adverse events affecting patients to ensure that all staff involved receive the care and resources that they need to cope. The peer support team has completed 82 of these proactive outreaches so far this fiscal year, up from 60 last fiscal year.

Please remember that this resource is available to you and all your colleagues. If you are a leader, remind your staff or clinician group that the peer support team is here to help. More information about the team can be found on the intranet here. A link is available on the Salem Health intranet home page, as well.
