Palliative care expands, thanks to physicians

12 Mar 2023

More service to advanced heart, lung disease, cancer patients

By: Larissa Smith, MBA, manager, adult hospitalist, palliative care and psychiatry provider operations

We're pleased to share that due to improved physician staffing, palliative care will be broadening our scope of services to patients who:

  • Are hospitalized for primary advanced cancer diagnosis
  • Require symptom management related to malignant disease
  • Are located on NTCU with life limiting illness
  • Receive intensive level of care or have the TRACS team as their attending provider
  • Have end-stage liver disease and/or end-stage renal disease
  • Have advanced heart disease
  • Have advanced lung disease

This change includes the diagnoses of advanced heart and/or lung disease. We'll continue to assess and expand as appropriate over the next several months.

Thanks for your continued understanding and support as we build a strong palliative service to support you and the patients we serve! If you have questions, please contact Christine Clarke, MD, chief medical officer, Salem Health Medical Group.
