“Strong program with experienced and well-respected bariatric surgeon as director”

By: Shannon Priem, senior content specialist

Our Bariatric Surgery Center has again been accredited by the American College of Surgeons — which means we provide an uncompromising commitment to quality.

We first received accreditation as a Comprehensive Center from the Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Accreditation & Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) in 2012. Then again in 2015, 2018 and 2021.

This accreditation formally acknowledges our commitment to providing ongoing quality improvement and patient safety for metabolic and bariatric surgery patients. According to the ACS, we have demonstrated that we provide multidisciplinary, high-quality, patient-centered care.

Zero findings!

We had a perfect score — ZERO findings on our survey held June 9, 2023. The surveyor had this to say:

“Very strong program with experienced and well-respected bariatric surgeon as director. Both surgeons are obviously very passionate in making this a very successful program. Both provide excellent communication and coverage, with strong leadership and an open-door policy, constantly striving to make the program even better. Very organized and effective bariatric coordinator. Excellent multidisciplinary communication and collaboration among all departments. Strong support from administration. Overall, excellent program with very clear dedication to creating a very comprehensive multidisciplinary program with all members of the team working very hard to provide the best care possible for their patients.”

Why is accreditation important?

Studies show that mortality rates at non-accredited facilities are, on average, three times greater than at accredited facilities.
