Every year, a shortage of oseltamivir (Tamiflu) develops as flu season progresses. The guidelines adopted by P&T during December 2013 indicate that to receive oseltamivir, patients should be both inpatient AND have a positive influenza test. To minimize the impact to this year’s anticipated oseltamivir shortage, pharmacists will not verify and dispense an order with a negative or pending flu test.
