Opioid titration order change coming soon

New targeted info helps guide infusions

By: Matthew Tanner, PharmD, BCPS, Pharmacy clinical coordinator

Our most recent TJC survey helped us understand that our titration target for opioid infusions was entirely too vague — so we were gifted the opportunity to correct that oversight.

Starting Sept. 13, fentanyl, hydromorphone and morphine infusions will have a greatly improved question to help nurses determine what to target when titrating these infusions. A preview is shown here:

The additional click needed to answer this question will substantially improve the guidance our nurses have to work with.

If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions about a commonly used titration target that we missed, please contact Matthew Tanner at 503-814-9960 or matthew.tanner@salemhealth.org.
