One scheduling program to rule them all

Over the past few years, we have been laying the ground work to consolidate from three separate scheduling programs to a single source of truth.

The main concern we heard in initial discussions with physicians was the issue of errant pages. The WebXchange scheduling solution has an option for mitigating this.

You can change your availability for page in the system by logging in to WebXchange and creating an “Exception Schedule” for yourself, or by calling the Salem Health switchboard to do it for you.

For example, if you are on a 24-hour page cycle, but are taking two weeks of vacation, you can label yourself as unpagable. You can also assign the physician who will be covering for you during that time by selecting “covered by” as an option.

We are training section leaders on this option, and can schedule individual training by request.

Additionally, training will be provided to the nursing units to ensure they access the on-call schedule first to make sure they are reaching the right provider at the right time.

The switchboard operators maintain the schedule with live, accurate information for many departments in the hospital.

Consolidating to one system ensures that we do not have gaps in patient care based off of inaccurate information in Who’s On Today or other scheduling sources. Having the switchboard operators maintain the schedule ensures coverage 24x7, as well as documented standards and practices that will result in consistent service.
