By: Kathleen Harder, MD, FACP, Associate Chief Medical Officer for Medical Specialties

As part of the A3 Reduction in Length of Stay Work, we began the phased roll-out of inpatient Epic consult orders for provider services on March 5.

New inpatient consult workflows begin for additional select specialties in Epic at about 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 25. You can find the most current list of live specialties by pressing F1 in Epic. For all other specialties, continue using direct call to the on-call provider.

Using electronically placed orders will improve timeliness of patient care, patient length of stay and provider well-being.

URGENT/STAT Consults:

Direct provider-to-provider communication remains the first step and continues to be required. The provider would then place the order in Epic once time allowed. Initial consult notes are written in the Consult tab and this satisfies the consult order as complete.

Training:

A short demo video, rules of the road, FAQ, tip sheets and other information are available by pressing F1 in Epic.

Issues:

If you encounter an issue, please place a ticket with the Solution Center here or call 503-814-4357.

Please pass this information on to your colleagues. Thank you for your partnership!
