A dedicated space for high-quality care

The Salem Health Breast Care Center ribbon cutting ceremony took place Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Salem Hospital courtyard with speeches from leadership, followed by a patient testimonial and tours of the new space.

While the Breast Care Center operated since 2019, the new location will provide dedicated space to support our patients and breast care community. The new clinic — located in Salem Hospital Building C, across from the pharmacy — features Breast Surgeon Patricia Luckeroth, MD, and Physician Assistant Tabitha Phillips, PA-C, who provide evidence-based care with their teams to patients across the cancer continuum, from diagnosis to survivorship.

Also in the space are the breast nurse navigators who provide patient education and support related to diagnosis and treatment as well as financial, psychosocial, spiritual and other practical needs.

“Patients need access to high-quality breast care in their own community in a dedicated space with everything providers and staff need to deliver excellent care,” said Dr. Luckeroth, Salem Health Breast Care Center Medical Director.

The space features larger exam rooms, two procedure rooms and a wheelchair-ready restroom.

“I am looking forward to having more space in the exam rooms to assist the providers with office procedures,” said Amanda Buntjer, CMA, Breast Care Center and gynecologic oncology surgery scheduler.

There’s also a photographic mural of nature the staff love — it contributes to the welcoming, calming atmosphere the clinic hopes to provide to patients.

“I am excited to be a part of this program and appreciate the support of our organization to offer our community a dedicated space for breast care services,” said Mary Hughes, RN, Breast Care Center nurse.
