John Hunter, MD, FACS, has accepted a newly created position of chief clinical officer. John will continue to serve as interim dean of the School of Medicine until a new dean is on board.
As we have expanded our health care enterprise to include new partners, the work of integrating our clinical programs is paramount to success in achieving the aims of the affiliation. This will be the key focus of the role. The position will have a dual report to me and to the SoM dean. Anthony Masciotra, CEO of the OHSU Practice Plan (OPP), will report to this new position. More details will follow.
Making this appointment now is important both in terms of initiating important clinical integration efforts and in informing the candidates during the remainder of the SoM dean selection process.
John has built highly successful relationships at OHSU and across the state during his nearly 16 years as chair of the Department of Surgery. During his service as interim dean, he has shown leadership in working with OHSU Partners and our clinical enterprise leaders to engage providers at OHSU and in our partner communities in the collaborative and thoughtful manner that will be so important during this time of growth and change.
