As part of our A3 Reduction in Length of Stay work, on Sept 4 we began the phased roll-out of inpatient Epic consult orders for provider services. Using electronically placed orders improves timeliness of patient care, decreases patient length of stay and improves provider well-being.
The Sept. 4 addition is the new inpatient consult workflow for additional select specialties. Press F1 in Epic to see the most up-to-date list of specialties included.
For all other specialties, continue to use direct call to on-call provider.
Direct provider-to-provider communication continues to be required and remains the first step. The provider would then place the order in Epic when time allows. Initial consult notes are written in the Consult tab and this satisfies the consult order as complete.
