As of November 2016, a geriatric-friendly adult admission order set has been created.

Why? The BEERS criteria provides a list of medications that can lead to harmful effects in the geriatric population. By creating a geriatric-friendly admission order set we can minimize use of these medications and improve patient safety.

What changed? The “Geriatric Adult Admission Order Set” is a carbon copy of the “Adult Admission Order Set” except that Ativan (lorazepam), Xanax (alprazolam), Phenergan (promethazine) and Compazine (prochlorperazine) have been removed. These medications can still be ordered, but use of this order set prevents any accidental ordering during the admission process for our older patients.
