Message from the CMO

24 Jan 2016

By: Ralph Yates, DO, chief medical officer

I want to ask for your involvement on the Medical Staff Engagement Committee (MSEC). But first let me say what a pleasure it has been to begin my new responsibilities and to begin meeting each of you personally. As we’ve all learned, change is constant, especially today. For clinicians, the pace and breadth of this change appears to be accelerating. Fortunately, we are blessed with a great team of highly talented clinician leaders.

In this time of transformation, we’re seeing many of these committed people step up to new challenges while others move on to other priorities. Our colleague, Maurice Collada, MD, has spent the past eight years as chair of the MSEC.  Maurice has been a tireless champion for medical staff engagement. His leadership, passion and energy will be greatly missed on this committee.

A new chair will have big shoes to fill, yet it’s exciting to envision the next chapter for the MSEC.  I’m including here a list of annual work performed by this committee.  Please consider whether chairing this team may be the right leadership position for you. Chat with Maurice or me if you have questions.

Several other longstanding MSEC members are also moving on: Nancy Boutin, MD, and Darcy Blanchard, DO.  Nancy was a founding member of the committee and has given countless hours to engagement work.  Darcy has shown that dashing from a busy Salem Clinic practice to the hospital for a monthly meeting is possible!

We are looking for new leaders. Ideally, this committee would include hospital and community-based providers from a variety of specialties. We do truly need you. Please consider getting involved and feel free to contact me at ralph.yates@salemhealth.org or 503-561-3333 if you are interested.
