MEC seeks chair for Primary Care section

Dr. Nikhil Batra on temporary travel leave

The Medical Executive Committee is accepting nominations for primary care department chair. Current chair Dr. Nikhil Batra is taking a temporary leave to travel with his wife. The new chair will serve the remainder of his term from May 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018, at which time a new nomination process begins.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Member of the active staff with relevant clinical privileges
  • Member of the primary care department

Committee Participation: 

  • Member of the Medical Executive Committee – meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 6:30 to 8 a.m.
  • Member of the Quality Operations Committee – meets on the first Friday of the month from 6:30 to 8 a.m.
  • Member of Physician Leadership Council – meets the third Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m.

Department Chair Responsibilities – below is a sampling; more information can be located in the Salem Hospital Credentials Procedural Manual (request from Medical Staff Office).

  • Oversee all clinically related activities of the department.
  • Provide ongoing surveillance of the performance of all individuals in the medical staff department who have been granted clinical privileges.
  • Recommend to the Credentials Committee the criteria for requesting clinical privileges that are relevant to the care provided in the medical staff department.
  • Recommend clinical privileges for each member of the department and other licensed independent practitioners practicing with privileges within the scope of the department.
