Coding queries are a time-consuming reality providers face regularly. You can avoid many queries by succinct clinical documentation. We’d like to thank you for working on this effort!
In January, we began recognizing our providers who supply all the information we need to code charts correctly the first time by starting our own “MD kudos board.” (Thank you to CDI for the inspiration!) It’s located in Building A across from the physician lounge. Providers who are nominated for kudos for providing excellent clinical documentation receive a $5 nutrition services gift card as an added perk.
We also added another tool in the provider’s toolbox to reduce coding queries – the dedicated coding help mailbox. Any provider can email a coding question (general or specific) to CodingHelp@salemhealth.org. Senior medical coders and clinical documentation improvement staff who are well versed in both inpatient and outpatient coding monitor this mailbox. We are here to help.
