thomasWhat's next with the medical staff engagement survey
After sharing survey results with physicians and Salem Hospital administration in April, Maurice Collada, MD, chair, Medical Staff Engagement Committee, and David Rowlee, Ph.D., senior vice president for INTEGRATED Healthcare Strategies, will present the results to the Salem Health Board of Trustees on Thursday, July 2. You can read the executive overview of the key quantitative data related to physician engagement.  If you have questions or comments regarding these results, please submit to
commonground@salemhealth.org and we'll provide responses in the next Common Ground e-newsletter.

We are also republishing a corrected version of the results graphic that we shared in the last issue of Common Ground. We identified an error in how the previous results were generated. Please take a moment to review the strength areas and those needing attention.

Again, thank you for taking this year's survey.  As a next step, the Medical Staff Engagement Committee will develop recommendations based on the survey results and input from physicians at the action plan development sessions.

PRACTICAL MATTERS
sepsisAre you ready for ICD-10?

ICD-10 is on track to go live in October 2015. This will affect you as a provider. Medical Staff with active membership at Salem Hospital will be required to take training modules in HealthStream starting in mid-June. These training modules come from Precyse University  and will include both general and specialty-specific trainings.  The MEC and physician coalition determined the Precyse system to be the most comprehensive education option available.

Since the Precyse trainings are intended for providers only, we also wanted to mention that the Oregon Medical Association is offering web-based training on ICD-10 as well. CME on specialty specific ICD-10 transition, ICD-10 clinical documentation and on-demand ICD-10-CM specialty training series for coders could be useful for your office staff or as a supplement to your Precyse trainings. The specifics are outlined on the Oregon Medical Association  website.

If you already have CME for ICD-10, please submit it to Kelli Fussell for the MEC to consider waiving the requirement.

If you have questions, please contact Claire O'Brien, MD.

pharmacyOP Rehab Epic go-live

On Monday, June 8, outpatient rehabilitation programs will transition to Epic Ambulatory. Outpatient Rehab has 45 physical, occupational, and speech therapists at Center Street and Work Injury Management that will make the transition in June. Psychologists have been using Epic for several months now. West Valley Hospital therapists will transition later this summer.

For those of you using Epic, we will continue to receive orders via CPOM, and you will now be able to view therapy notes in chart review, if relevant to your work.

During the month of June, we will work hard to take care of all our patients. We will reduce schedules to allow for training and a learning curve, so please know we are working to minimize any delay in scheduling appointments for patients with one of our therapists.

If you do receive a fax or other communication with patient information that is poorly formatted, please let Phil Haworth know so we can correct the problem.
