1) Review the 2017 ACC/AHA hypertension guidelines.
2) Understand how to integrate the guidelines into clinical practice.
3) Identify some of the controversies surrounding the new guidelines.

Dr. Yang's biography: Dr. Yang is medical director of the University of Washington Medicine Eastside Specialty Center and a UW clinical associate professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency and fellowships in cardiovascular disease and advanced cardiac imaging at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension and lipid disorders. He is especially interested in primary and secondary prevention of heart disease through aggressive risk-factor modification and lifestyle change. He conducts clinical research on new cholesterol-lowering therapies and appropriate treatment options for patients with coronary artery disease.
Dr. Yang is the president and governor of the Washington Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and is a member of its Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease leadership council. He chairs the Hypertension Working Group for the ACC Prevention Council and is the founder of the Asian Health Initiative at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
