Improved medication ordering alerts start Nov. 19 in Epic

Only some providers currently receive alerts when ordering a medication with a potential interaction or other problem.

To ensure all providers get appropriate decision support when signing a medication order, Salem Health will begin standardizing select medication ordering alerts on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

 These alerts will look like the allergy alerts providers already see for severe reactions. The new categories are:

We know it’s important to balance decision support patient safety tools against the risk of alert fatigue. The alert criteria will be fine-tuned in response to your comments following go-live.
