Hypoglycemic Event progress note may appear in charts

27 Sep 2020

We’re standardizing the documentation format

By: Sandra Bunn and Michelle Grove, Diabetes Steering Committee co-chairs

You may see a new Progress Note in your patient’s chart with the header “Hypoglycemic Event” (see link below). This is the new way for RNs to document a hypoglycemic event.

Background: A test of change was completed that notified Providers of hypoglycemic events that demonstrated improved patient outcomes and Provider responsiveness. However, there was no standard communication requirement, therefore, progress was not sustainable.

The RN will still be notifying providers if there is a hypoglycemic event, but this facilitates a standardized format for documentation. SBAR below provides more information. Please contact Michelle Grove or Sandy Bunn if you have questions!
