How do I Keep WebXchange open when in Epic?

Frustrated with repeated WebXchange logins?

If you have to repeatedly log in to WebXchange during one Epic session, there are a couple of solutions:

Solution 1—WebXchange inside Epic:

  • When accessing WebXchange from the “Reference Links” activity under the Epic icon, a little ‘house’ icon appears at the top left of your screen. This is the WebXchange icon.
  • If you don’t close WebXchange, you can go back and forth between it and your patient list (the first icon in the same row of icons—has a person and three lines) seamlessly without having to log in or log out of either by just clicking on the ‘house’ or the ‘patient list’ icons.

There is one problem with this method: When Epic “times out,” you have to log in to both Epic and WebXchange again.

Solution 2—WebXchange outside Epic:

  • Log in to WebXchange from Internet Explorer, and minimize it when you aren’t using it.
  • Internet Explorer is always visible at the bottom of your computer screen.
  • Go to the Intranet home page and find WebXchange under the “Popular Links” or “Tools and Resources” sections.
  • When you’ve completed your task, minimize Internet Explorer and it will sit at the bottom of the screen, even after Epic has timed out.
