Oregon State University has declared the outbreak of meningococcal disease over. Quick details:

  • OSU students who have begun their MenB vaccine series may finish it.
  • Effective Nov. 23, insurers were allowed to require payment for vaccines accessed out-of-network.
  • Pharmacy protocols are being adjusted to reflect the end of the outbreak. OSU students may access the vaccine without a prescription until Dec. 31. After that, they’ll need to get it through a primary care provider.

Remember, some of the signs of this disease look like the common cold or flu, so be aware of the differences when patients present. People who notice fever with severe headache, stiff neck, rash or confusion should contact a provider right away. If these signs are sudden, seek emergency care.
