May 1 marked two years since Salem Health launched Peer Support! This volunteer team comprises medical and hospital staff trained in crisis support, stress management and helping second victims. We are thankful to our amazing cohort of medical staff representatives who have stepped up to help their colleagues navigate difficult and traumatic situations that take occur in the workplace.
During this unprecedented time, Peer Support has been busier than ever and are very happy to be there to support peers in need. Between COVID-19 concerns and the fire this past August, Peer Support has made more than 400 outreached to staff impacted and received nearly 20 self-referrals to the Peer Support phone line. Remember, any health care team member can be a second victim when they are exposed to a stressful situation or patient-related traumatic event. The Peer Support team provides guidance, resources and a safe space to talk.
If you experienced a stressful event or outcome, Peer Support is here to help, all day, every day. Call 503-814-7337. Learn more about Peer Support on its intranet page.
Happy second birthday, Salem Health Peer Support!
