Gastric bypass, Foley removal updates

19 Jan 2020

Gastric Bypass Patient NSAID/Steroid BPA

NSAID and/or steroids are contraindicated for patients who have a history of gastric bypass surgery. New BPAs will now warn providers and clinical staff who attempt to place NSAID or Steroid orders for these patients and present alternative/additional treatment options. Avoiding these medications or adding a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) is recommended for these patients. Please review the tip sheet for more information. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the solution center at (503) 814-4357 or solution.center@salemhealth.org

Non-surgical Foley removal protocol orders

A new Non-Surgical Foley Catheter panel was created to help support the Nurse Initiated Removal of Indwelling Urinary Catheters protocol. The panel includes a Remove Foley protocol order. Once ordered, the new protocol allows the nurse to remove the Foley when the protocol conditions are met (see Nurse-Initiated Removal of Indwelling Urinary Catheter (HOUDINI) Protocol). Please see this tip sheet for more information. If you have any immediate concerns, please contact the solution center at 503-814-4357 or solution.center@salemhealth.org
